SIM Cards & eSIM in Sweden

Europe · 18 plans

Sweden is one of the most connected countries in the world, with near-universal mobile coverage across its cities, motorways and most populated rural areas. As an EU member, Sweden falls under the bloc’s “roam-like-at-home” rules, so a SIM bought anywhere in the EU works in Sweden at domestic rates — making it an easy destination for travellers who already hold a European plan.

Networks & coverage

Four operators run their own networks: Telia, Tele2, Telenor and Tre (3). Telia has the widest reach and is usually the most reliable choice in the far north and remote Lapland, while Tele2’s budget brand Comviq offers the best value in and around Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmö. 5G is live and expanding fast across all four carriers in urban areas.

eSIM or physical SIM?

Most recent smartphones support eSIM, and a travel eSIM from a global brand can be installed before you land — handy for skipping the airport queue at Arlanda. Physical prepaid SIMs from Comviq, Telia or Telenor are sold in supermarkets, kiosks (Pressbyrån) and operator stores, and Sweden requires no passport registration for prepaid SIMs.

Data, calls & messaging

Local prepaid top-ups bundle unlimited domestic calls and SMS with generous data allowances, and most include EU-wide roaming so the same SIM works across the continent. Global travel eSIMs are typically data-only; for calls and messaging travellers lean on WhatsApp, FaceTime and other internet apps.

How much data do you need?

For a week of maps, social media and the odd video call, 5–10 GB is comfortable. Heavy streamers or those tethering a laptop should look at 20 GB or one of the unlimited daily plans. If you are touring multiple EU countries, an EU-wide plan that bundles Sweden with its neighbours is the most economical pick.

How we compile this data

Plan data is compiled from the public pricing pages of mobile operators, MVNOs, and eSIM providers serving each destination.

Listings are reviewed by the DROAM telecom desk and kept neutral — we surface a representative sample of options rather than promote any single provider.

Operators change allowances and pricing frequently, so we update entries as plans change and always link out to the provider for the current offer.
