eSIM or physical SIM?

If you do want a local SIM, only Yettel is reliably available at the airport, and city stores offer the better-value Magyar Telekom Domino packs.

Magyar Telekom’s Domino Fix prepaid line bundles modest data with minutes and SMS and long validity, with add-on data packs available. eSIM travel plans are usually data-only; for calls and texts lean on WhatsApp, Viber or other apps. As an EU SIM, a Hungarian plan keeps working across the bloc.
How much data do you need?
For a Budapest city break of maps, transit and messaging, 3–5 GB easily covers several days. If you are pairing Hungary with neighbouring EU countries, a 10 GB regional eSIM is the simplest single purchase. Streamers and remote workers should size up to 20 GB+ or an unlimited plan.
