Czechia’s mobile market is led by O2, T-Mobile and Vodafone, all running dense 4G LTE and expanding 5G across Prague, Brno, Ostrava, Plzen and the main regional centres. Coverage is excellent in cities and along the motorway network, with only deep forest, the Sumava and Krkonose mountains and remote border areas thinning out. As an EU country, Czechia is covered by “roam like at home,” so EU eSIMs and SIMs work at domestic rates alongside reasonably priced local prepaid cards.
Networks & coverage
T-Mobile and O2 have the broadest, fastest networks, with Vodafone close behind and strong in cities. Travel eSIMs typically roam on O2 or T-Mobile, delivering quick data in Prague and other towns and reliable 4G on the road. Expect 5G in the larger cities and dependable LTE nearly everywhere a traveler goes; signal can fade in the Bohemian and Moravian highlands and the densest national-park forest.
eSIM or physical SIM?
An eSIM from Airalo, Holafly or Ubigi is the simplest option: install before you travel and connect on arrival at Vaclav Havel Airport with no shop visit. Local prepaid SIMs (O2, Vodafone, T-Mobile) are sold in stores and offer good bundles, but newer registration rules can add a small hassle for tourists. For a short city break a data eSIM is easiest; for a longer stay a local prepaid bundle gives more gigabytes per koruna.
Data, calls & messaging
Travel eSIMs are data-only, which is fine in Czechia where WhatsApp and Messenger are standard. A local O2 or T-Mobile prepaid SIM bundles data with calls and a Czech number, useful for booking tours, restaurants and transport. Because Czechia is in the EU, a SIM bought here keeps working at home rates across neighbouring Germany, Austria, Poland, Slovakia and the wider bloc.
How much data do you need?
A week of maps, messaging and browsing fits in 3-5 GB. Two weeks of sightseeing with social media and photos suits 10 GB. Heavy users streaming or working remotely should pick 15-20 GB. For a typical Prague-and-around city trip, a 5-10 GB eSIM covers navigation, restaurant lookups and plenty of photo uploads without topping up.
