Cyprus is an easy place to stay connected, with good mobile coverage across the main tourist areas of Nicosia, Limassol, Paphos and Ayia Napa. As an EU member, the Republic of Cyprus is covered by the bloc’s roaming rules, so any EU SIM or eSIM works at home rates.
Networks & coverage
Three operators serve the Republic of Cyprus: Cytamobile-Vodafone (Cyta), Epic and PrimeTel. Coverage is reliable across cities, resorts and main roads, with 4G everywhere and 5G live and growing in urban and coastal areas. Note that mobile networks differ in the north of the island, which is not covered by EU roaming.
eSIM or physical SIM?
Cyta, Epic and PrimeTel all support eSIM, and travel brands such as Airalo and Nomad connect to these local networks. An eSIM you install before arrival is the simplest option for most visitors. A physical tourist SIM bought in-store is attractive here too, since local operators sell large data bundles cheaply for short stays.
Data, calls & messaging
Local tourist SIMs from Cyta, Epic and PrimeTel pack huge data allowances together with national and EU minutes and SMS, often far more data than travel eSIMs. International eSIMs tend to be data-only, so calls and texts go through WhatsApp, Viber or similar apps. EU-wide regional eSIMs also work in the Republic of Cyprus without roaming charges.
How much data do you need?
For a short beach holiday with maps and messaging, 3-5 GB is enough. A week or two with photos, streaming and hotspot use suits 10-20 GB, though a local tourist SIM may give you far more for the same money. Heavy users and long stays should consider a high-data local pack or an unlimited Europe plan.
