Networks & coverage
Three operators run national networks in Germany: Deutsche Telekom (the largest and most reliable), Vodafone and O2 (Telefonica). As an EU country, Germany benefits from “roam like at home” rules, so any EU-issued SIM or eSIM works at no extra cost across all 27 EU states, useful if you are also visiting Austria, the Netherlands or France.
How much data do you need?
A short trip with maps and social media is comfortable on 3-5GB. One to two weeks of sightseeing with photo sharing and light streaming fits well in 10-20GB. Digital nomads and heavy streamers should choose 50GB or an unlimited daily-cap plan. If you are touring several European countries, a regional eSIM covering 40+ destinations usually works out cheaper than buying a SIM in each country.
