SIM Cards & eSIM in Tunisia

Africa · 20 plans

Tunisia is an easy, affordable destination for staying connected, with three competitive operators and dedicated tourist SIM packages sold at Tunis-Carthage (TUN) and Djerba-Zarzis (DJE) airports. Coverage across the coastal resorts and major cities is good, and prices for both local SIMs and travel eSIMs are among the lowest in North Africa.

Networks & coverage

Three networks share the market: Ooredoo Tunisia (the largest), Orange Tunisia and Tunisie Telecom (the state incumbent). All three give strong 4G across Tunis, Sousse, Hammamet, Djerba and the main tourist belt. 5G is only just emerging and is not something a traveller should rely on, so plan around solid 4G/LTE.

eSIM or physical SIM?

A travel eSIM (Airalo, Ubigi, Saily, Holafly, plus Orange’s own travel eSIM) installs in minutes with no paperwork. A local tourist SIM from Ooredoo, Orange or Tunisie Telecom is excellent value and gives you a Tunisian number, with passport-based registration handled at the airport or operator shop — quick and routine for visitors.

Data, calls & messaging

Local Holiday/tourist packs are very generous: Ooredoo’s Holiday SIM offers around 10 GB plus calls and SMS for 30 TND, scaling to 25–40 GB on higher tiers, and rivals match this closely. Travel eSIMs are data-only with no Tunisian number, so use WhatsApp for voice. For a number plus voice and SMS, a local tourist SIM is the better pick.

How much data do you need?

A short beach break with maps and messaging runs comfortably on 1–3 GB. For a week or more of regular browsing and social media, 5–10 GB is the sweet spot — easily and cheaply covered by a local Holiday SIM or a mid-tier travel eSIM.

How we compile this data

Plan data is compiled from the public pricing pages of mobile operators, MVNOs, and eSIM providers serving each destination.

Listings are reviewed by the DROAM telecom desk and kept neutral — we surface a representative sample of options rather than promote any single provider.

Operators change allowances and pricing frequently, so we update entries as plans change and always link out to the provider for the current offer.
