Chad has two main mobile operators: Airtel Chad and Moov Africa Chad. Coverage is concentrated in N’Djamena (NDJ) and a few regional towns, with limited or no service across most of the country. Before travelling, consult your government’s current travel advisories, as much of Chad is subject to serious security warnings.
Networks & coverage
Airtel Chad and Moov Africa Chad operate the networks. You can expect 4G in N’Djamena and larger towns, with 3G or 2G in smaller centres and little to no coverage in remote and desert areas. Mobile penetration and infrastructure are among the lowest in the region.
eSIM or physical SIM?
Travel eSIM providers such as Airalo and Holafly cover Chad by roaming onto the Airtel network, which is useful if you arrive without a SIM and have an eSIM-capable phone. For longer stays, a local physical SIM from an Airtel or Moov shop is cheaper but requires ID registration. A travel eSIM is the easier choice for short visits.
Data, calls & messaging
Travel eSIMs for Chad are data-only, with no local number or SMS. Use WhatsApp, Telegram, Signal or similar apps over your data connection for calls and messaging. If you need a Chadian phone number, buy a local physical SIM instead.
How much data do you need?
A short trip using maps, messaging and light browsing usually needs 1–3 GB. Heavier users who stream or upload media should plan for 5 GB or more. Because coverage is strongest in N’Djamena, do data-heavy tasks while in the capital.

How we compile this data
Plan data is compiled from the public pricing pages of mobile operators, MVNOs, and eSIM providers serving each destination.
Listings are reviewed by the DROAM telecom desk and kept neutral — we surface a representative sample of options rather than promote any single provider.
Operators change allowances and pricing frequently, so we update entries as plans change and always link out to the provider for the current offer.

Check that your phone is carrier-unlocked before buying, and match the data allowance to your trip length.
