Bahrain is one of the best-connected countries in the Gulf, with three modern mobile networks blanketing the small island kingdom and aggressive 5G rollout across Manama, Muharraq and the causeway corridor. For a short visit you can be online within minutes using an eSIM, or pick up a cheap tourist SIM at Bahrain International Airport.
Networks & coverage
Three operators serve Bahrain: Batelco (the incumbent), stc Bahrain (formerly VIVA) and Zain Bahrain. stc and Batelco generally deliver the fastest, most consistent speeds, while Zain is usually the cheapest. Because the country is geographically tiny and heavily urbanised, coverage is excellent almost everywhere a traveller goes.
eSIM or physical SIM?
A travel eSIM (Airalo, Saily, Holafly, Nomad and others all cover Bahrain) is the most convenient option — you install it before you fly and connect on landing, with no shop visit and no passport registration. A local physical SIM is cheaper per gigabyte and gives you a Bahraini number for calls and SMS, but you must show your passport (CPR/ID registration is enforced) and the local operators charge an extra activation fee for their own eSIMs.
Data, calls & messaging
Local prepaid bundles are generous: stc and Zain both sell roughly 100 GB data-only monthly packs for around 10.5 BHD, and tourist combos pair 20–25 GB with 200 voice minutes. Travel eSIMs are data-only (no local number or SMS), so use WhatsApp or other apps for calls. 5G is widely available on all three networks for compatible phones.
How much data do you need?
For a few days of maps, messaging and social media, 3–5 GB is plenty. A week or more with regular streaming points you toward a 10–20 GB travel eSIM, or one of the huge local data packs if you also want a Bahraini number.

How we compile this data
Plan data is compiled from the public pricing pages of mobile operators, MVNOs, and eSIM providers serving each destination.
Listings are reviewed by the DROAM telecom desk and kept neutral — we surface a representative sample of options rather than promote any single provider.
Operators change allowances and pricing frequently, so we update entries as plans change and always link out to the provider for the current offer.

The lowest-cost option listed is MyDataSim at $4.56 for 1 GB over 365 days.
eSIM plans activate instantly by scanning a QR code — no SIM swap or local store visit needed.
A physical SIM can be the better choice for older phones that do not support eSIM.
Check that your phone is carrier-unlocked before buying, and match the data allowance to your trip length.
