Ooredoo and du to land FIG subsea cable in the UAE

Ooredoo Group and du say their Fibre in the Gulf (FIG) subsea cable will reach up to 720Tbps and add route diversity for the region.

Ooredoo and du to land FIG subsea cable in the UAE

Ooredoo Group has announced a partnership with du to land the Fibre in the Gulf (FIG) subsea cable system in the UAE, aimed at supporting growing regional data and digital infrastructure demand.

FIG is designed to deliver up to 720Tbps across 24 fibre pairs, with development plans spanning Qatar, the UAE, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq and Oman.

Partnership to land FIG in the UAE

Ooredoo and du are partnering to land FIG in the UAE, extending the systems overall architecture at dus cable station and supporting more diversified data routing across the region.

Capacity and fibre-pair scale of FIG

FIG is positioned as the largest subsea cable system ever built in the GCC. The system is designed to deliver an unprecedented capacity of up to 720Tbps across 24 fibre pairs, developed to meet sustained demand from hyperscalers, cloud providers, AI platforms and data centre operators.

Route diversity, redundancy and geographic scope

Ooredoos and dus announcement frames FIG around greater route diversity and redundancy, intended to strengthen redundant connectivity for business and support uninterrupted international data flows.

FIG is being developed to enable efficient, low-latency data flows across Qatar, the UAE, Bahrain, Saudi Arabia, Kuwait, Iraq and Oman, and the UAE landing strengthens efficiency of regional and intercontinental connectivity between the Middle East, Europe and Asia.

OFN leadership and operator quotes

The project is led by Ooredoo Fibre Networks (OFN), an independent entity established to manage and scale Ooredoo Groups international connectivity and subsea infrastructure investments under CEO Khalid Al Hamadi.

Ooredoo Group CEO Aziz Aluthman Fakhroo said FIG reflects the companys focus on building high-capacity, resilient connectivity infrastructure aligned with how demand is evolving, adding that the partnership with du is another step in the execution of the project.

du CEO Fahad Al Hassawi said landing the FIG subsea cable in the UAE strengthens dus international connectivity capabilities, and that the landing reinforces the UAEs position as a leading global hub for data, cloud and AI.

Next phase for cross-border digital infrastructure

Ooredoos and dus announcement says FIG will support the next phase of regional digital infrastructure development, providing scalable, high-capacity routes for cross-border data exchange and enabling continued growth in cloud, AI and digital services.
