Cobham Satcom will showcase its SAILOR 7200 terminal for Iridium at Posidonia 2026.
The company positions the terminal as a way to expand customer choice in next-generation Global Maritime Distress & Safety System (GMDSS) services, while continuing to support the SAILOR mini-C for Inmarsat services. Cobham Satcom says the Iridium Certus version helps it meet any needs and provide independent guidance based on vessel operations and trading patterns, without commercial lock-in to a single network.
Technically, Cobham Satcom describes SAILOR 7200 as a next-generation GMDSS solution for Iridiums LEO constellation, aiming for truly global coverage including polar regions for global broadband satellite services. It says the integrated platform brings GMDSS, Ship Security Alert System (SSAS) and Long-Range Identification and Tracking (LRIT) into one unit designed to simplify installation and GMDSS compliance. Cobham Satcom also says the terminal uses a compact omni-directional antenna that does not require pointing, along with a SAILOR user interface intended to provide intuitive and familiar operation, helping reduce crew training requirements and simplify installation. The company adds that the small footprint and low power consumption, together with an integrated architecture, are designed to reduce complexity and lower total cost of ownership across a range of vessel types. Cobham Satcom further states its involvement in satellite maritime safety communications dates back to Inmarsats establishment in 1979, and says more than 300,000 SAILOR maritime L-band antennas have been deployed globally. The company says it will display SAILOR 7200 at stand 3.411/2 during Posidonia 2026 in Athens.
