Cellcard accelerates 5G rollout to 1,000 sites by end of July

Cellcard says it is on track to reach 1,000 5G sites by the end of July after deploying over 500 base stations in Cambodia.

Cellcard accelerates 5G rollout to 1,000 sites by end of July

Cellcard says it is on track to reach 1,000 5G sites by the end of July, following the deployment of over 500 5G base stations that already cover about 50% of Phnom Penh’s population.

The operator also says it has doubled its 5G network footprint since January 2026 and is expanding coverage across Phnom Penh, Takhmao, and Cambodia’s Central Region.

5G footprint doubling and the 1,000-site target

Cellcard announced that it has doubled its 5G network footprint by deploying over 500 5G base stations, with the initial rollout covering about 50% of Phnom Penh’s population. From January 2026, the operator says its 5G footprint doubling has continued, and it expects the network to broaden coverage across Phnom Penh, Takhmao, and the country’s Central Region as it pushes toward its end-of-July milestone.

Indoor coverage and up-to-1-Gbit/s claims

Cellcard says its 5G network is designed to provide strong indoor coverage and speeds of up to 1 Gbit/s in key locations. It describes a deployment approach that prioritizes dense urban coverage and indoor performance at Cambodia’s busiest areas rather than focusing mainly on outdoor coverage.

The operator also points to dense urban deployment across venues including shopping malls, offices, airports, schools, hospitals, entertainment venues, and residential communities.

Deployment outside Phnom Penh: Siem Reap and beyond

Cellcard launched its 5G network in Siem Reap last month, and said Siem Reap is the third city in Cambodia after Phnom Penh and Takhmao to have 5G. The operator says it will continue expanding its 5G footprint across key provinces where it is needed most, with nationwide deployment expected to increase in number this year.

CEO position on customer experience

Cellcard CEO Yap Kok Leong said the company is building a high-performance network designed around real customer experience, and that each new site activation brings Cambodia one step closer toward a truly connected digital nation. He said the CEO quote was released in a statement on Monday.
