Cellcard, also known as CamGSM, says it has doubled its 5G network coverage since launching in January, with its current footprint at 500 base stations.

The operator also says this coverage reaches around 50% of the population in Phnom Penh and extends to Techo International Airport, as it plans to push over 1,000 sites by the end of July 2026.

From January launch to 500 base stations across Phnom Penh

Cellcard says its 5G rollout has expanded since January, reaching a total of 500 base stations. The operator frames Phnom Penh coverage as a key target, saying the network reaches around 50% of the population in the city.

Cellcard also says its 5G network covers Techo International Airport, positioning the build as both a city and a landmark coverage exercise.

Indoor and dense-urban deployment is the stated coverage model

Cellcard says its coverage strategy is focused primarily on dense urban deployments and indoor coverage.

It also lists targeted locations for deployments, including large shopping malls, ministries, state institutions, business areas, convention centres, luxury hotels, universities, schools, hospitals, healthcare facilities, tourist attractions, entertainment venues, and stadiums.

Regulator-reported progress and competitor deployment snapshots

In February 2026, Cambodia’s Ministry of Post and Telecommunications reported that Cellcard had launched 289 5G base stations in Phnom Penh and Kandal Province at that time.

That same ministry update reported that Viettel-owned Metfone had deployed 531 5G base stations in key target areas in Phnom Penh and numerous provincial capitals.

Separately, Smart Axiata announced it had rolled out 750 5G sites in 21 provinces.

Cellcard targets 1,000+ sites by end-July 2026

Cellcard says it is on track to double its 5G network coverage again by the end of July 2026. It aims to expand its 5G coverage to over 1,000 sites across Phnom Penh, Takhmao, and key regions of Cambodia.

Cellcard CEO Yap Kok Leong said the operator is building an efficient network focused on “real customer experience,” including fast speeds, strong indoor coverage, seamless mobility, and reliable home connectivity. He added that more 5G sites will continue to be launched throughout 2026 as Cellcard accelerates nationwide deployment.
