Bharti Airtel has launched its 5G network slicing service for postpaid customers, calling it Priority Postpaid.
The offer is built on Airtels upgrade to 5G Standalone (SA), and Airtel says it uses 5G SA capabilities to segment network capacity to deliver targeted, dedicated bandwidth.
Priority Postpaid runs on Airtels 5G SA slicing approach
Priority Postpaid leverages Airtels transition to 5G Standalone (SA). Airtel positions the mechanism as using 5G SA to intelligently and dynamically segment network capacity so customers get dedicated bandwidth instead of contention-based sharing.
Airtel also frames the service around uninterrupted connectivity needs. In a statement, Airtel India MD and CEO Shashwat Sharma said the experience is designed for customers who depend on continuous connectivity for work, entertainment, or online collaboration.
Sharma added that the service experience covers day-to-day scenarios including attending a client call in traffic, streaming at a packed concert, or booking a cab in a crowded market.
Eligibility: all postpaid plans, but requires a 5G-SA compatible phone
Priority Postpaid is available to customers on all postpaid plans. Airtel says customers need a 5G-SA compatible phone to use the service.
Airtel offers different packages for individual and family plans. Higher-tier bundles include more bandwidth-hungry services, including Airtel Xstream Play, Jio Hotstar, Amazon Prime, Apple Music, Apple TV, and Netflix.
TRAI monitoring and Jios parallel slicing work
The launch follows Telecom Regulatory Authority of India (TRAI) statements earlier this year that it would monitor 5G slicing to ensure such services do not violate net neutrality regulations.
In parallel, Reliance Jio has been trialling network slicing since 2024 and is making plans to launch commercial slicing services this year.
For readers comparing different approaches to keeping bandwidth steady, note how operators also manage capacity in global broadband satellite services. Airtels Priority Postpaid is also being pitched as the first network slicing service in India.
