Carrefour has launched Carrefour Mobile on Orange’s 4G/4G+ network, with three no-commitment plans priced at €6.90, €10.90, and €14.90.
Launch pricing, data allowances, and service terms
The three plans include 20 GB, 130 GB, and 300 GB of data, plus unlimited calls and SMS in metropolitan France. Customers can subscribe only online through a dedicated website, not in Carrefour stores.
SIM cards can be collected at one of Carrefour’s 2,200 participating stores, and plan management runs through the Carrefour Mobile app.
Carrefour’s return after the 2015 shutdown
Carrefour Mobile previously stopped service in France in 2015 and transferred its customers to Sosh, Orange’s low-cost brand. The new launch puts Carrefour back into mobile after that exit.
Signal for MVNOs and retail mobile buyers
Arcep says MVNOs’ market share is capped at 5%, and La Poste Mobile, the largest MVNO, has been acquired by Bouygues Telecom. Carrefour’s re-entry comes into that market backdrop, with the retail group using mobile as another customer touchpoint.
According to Les Echos, Carrefour is targeting 100,000 mobile subscribers within two years. Les Echos also says the goal is to add a customer touchpoint to improve retention.
