OranjeWind signs five-year CSOV charter with Purus for Purus Power

OranjeWind has signed a five-year charter agreement with Purus for the construction and service operation vessel (CSOV) Purus Power.

The charter covers both planned and unplanned maintenance activity at the OranjeWind offshore wind farm, with an option for extension.

Five-year Purus Power CSOV charter for OranjeWind O&M

Purus Power will support planned and unplanned maintenance activities at the OranjeWind offshore wind farm under a contract that includes an option for extension. OranjeWind itself is a joint venture between RWE and TotalEnergies.

Vessel fit for offshore wind: walk-to-work, hybrid propulsion

Purus Power is purpose-built for offshore wind operations and designed for extended stays at sea. The vessel includes accommodation, office space, meeting rooms, a gym, and a canteen for maintenance personnel.

Purus Power also carries an integrated walk-to-work system to enable technicians to transfer safely between the vessel and wind turbines. It is equipped with a diesel-electric and battery-hybrid propulsion system.

Dimensions, upgrade path, and the IJmuiden project location

Purus Power is 88 meters long with a beam of 19 meters. Purus said the vessel has been designed to enable future upgrades and potential conversion to emission-free energy sources.

On the project side, OranjeWind is being developed 53 kilometers from the coast of IJmuiden in the Netherlands and plans to use 53 15 MW Vestas offshore wind turbines. The wind farm is expected to generate up to 795 MW of green electricity, described as equivalent to consumption of more than 1 million Dutch households.

Commissioning timing for OranjeWind offshore wind farm

Full commissioning of the OranjeWind offshore wind farm is expected in early 2028.

Bart van der Wielen, General Manager O&M of OranjeWind, said bringing Purus Power into operations would strengthen maintenance capability and long-term commitment to safe and efficient offshore performance. He added that the partnership with Purus ensures technicians have the right tools and environment to keep OranjeWind running reliably for many years.
