GSMA says its Wholesale Agreements and Solutions Group, its Roaming Agreement Exchange and its Network Settings Exchange are part of the toolkit MVNOs can use as roaming relationships multiply.
The same package is presented as a way to reduce manual work around roaming agreements and device settings, with the Network Settings Exchange carrying more than 700 device manufacturers.
How the roaming workflow is organized
The Wholesale Agreements and Solutions Group brings together organizations from across the mobile ecosystem to collaborate on roaming, interoperability and commercial relationships. The group also uses Operator Bilateral Negotiations to let members discuss collaboration opportunities directly with roaming partners.
GSMA says roaming remains an important part of the service proposition for many MVNOs, whether they are supporting customers traveling internationally or serving multiple markets. The Roaming Agreement Exchange lets operators securely exchange roaming agreement and operational information using a standardized approach.
Device settings sit on a separate exchange
The Network Settings Exchange provides a central platform where operators can upload and maintain network settings for participating device manufacturers. GSMA says NSX has more than 700 device manufacturers on the platform.
Read for MVNO operations teams
For MVNO operations teams, the clear signal is that roaming administration and device settings are being handled through GSMA-managed exchanges rather than ad hoc partner-by-partner processes. The article does not disclose pricing or commercial terms, but it does specify the workflow tools GSMA is pushing into that operating model.
