Open Dutch Fiber says it has passed more than 1.5 million homes in the Netherlands and remains focused on wholesale FTTH, with no own ISP or retail business.
The company also says it has become the largest independent fiber provider in the country. CEO Paul Naastepad said the original plan was to reach 1 million homes passed in five years, but Open Dutch Fiber hit that milestone in 2023.
Wholesale FTTH remains the operating model
Open Dutch Fiber says its ambition is to be the Netherlands’ independent open-access FTTH wholesale provider. The network is fully open and neutral, and the company says it is available to all providers and operators.
That model is not a side feature. Open Dutch Fiber says it has no retail activities and provides wholesale fiber connections to service providers and operators only.
Management and ownership stay in frame
Open Dutch Fiber says CEO Paul Naastepad now leads a new management team. The company says it was created from investors KKR and DTCP, and that structure sits behind the wholesale-only posture it is still selling.
The company’s own history matters here because it frames the speed of the build. Open Dutch Fiber says it was founded five years ago during the COVID-19 period with a small team in a hotel in Zeist.
Read for wholesale fiber buyers
For service providers and operators buying access, the key point is that Open Dutch Fiber is still presenting itself as wholesale-only, with no retail arm to compete against downstream customers. The more than 1.5 million homes-passed figure also gives a scale marker for procurement teams tracking Dutch fiber reach.
