Damen Shipyards Group signs Carmet Tug Company deal for Multi Cat (MuC) 2309

Damen Shipyards Group signed a contract with Carmet Tug Company for a Multi Cat (MuC) 2309 tug on 9 June at Seawork in Southampton, with delivery scheduled for 3 July.

The contract also requires Damen to deliver the tug within weeks of signing, supported by its stock building programme and followed by pre-delivery work to meet Carmet’s requirements, including a Damen Marine NOx Reduction System.

Contract terms and delivery schedule for the MuC 2309

Under the contract, Damen is set to deliver the MuC 2309 within weeks of signing, with Damen stating it will deliver the vessel on 3 July, about four weeks after the contract date.

Damen links the short lead time to its stock building programme, and says it had a MuC 2309 in stock when Carmet approached.

How stock building links to Carmet’s order decision

Carmet Tug Company is a Merseyside-based towage and workboat company that operates second-hand Damen vessels, including a Shoalbuster (SBu) and a Stan Tug (STu).

Damen says Carmet contacted it when it required rapid delivery of a new MuC, and that in mid-May Carmet representatives visited Damen Shipyards Hardinxveld in the Netherlands to inspect and sail aboard the vessel before quickly confirming their intention to place an order.

Pre-delivery configuration: NOx, IMO Tier III and UK MCA requirements

Prior to delivery, Damen will prepare the MuC 2309 according to Carmet’s requirements. That includes installing a Damen Marine NOx Reduction System, described as a selective catalytic reduction solution aimed at reducing NOx emissions by 80% in line with IMO Tier III requirements.

Damen says it will also paint the vessel in Carmet colours and ensure it aligns with UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) requirements.

What Carmet and Damen executives said about the short lead time

Joshua Metcalfe, Managing Director of Carmet, said Carmet has been pleased with the performance of Damen vessels already in its fleet, and that the speed with which Damen made the vessel available surpassed expectations.

Metcalfe added that the availability of a stock vessel adapted to Carmet’s requirements enables a fast response to clients.

Wijtze van der Leij, Sales Manager UK at Damen, said Damen is grateful to Carmet for placing the order and that the company is supporting Carmet with a fast delivery.

What this means for workboat and tug buyers under tight turnaround windows

If you need a new Multi Cat (MuC) quickly, Damen is positioning its series and stock building approach as a way to compress timelines—contractually targeting delivery within weeks and stating a delivery date of 3 July for this unit.

For compliance-driven buyers, this deal also ties pre-delivery configuration to a Damen Marine NOx Reduction System and alignment with IMO Tier III and UK Maritime and Coastguard Agency (MCA) requirements.
