GIT Coatings launched XGIT-VORTEX, its next evolution in graphene-based propeller coatings, at Posidonia 2026 alongside Lloyd’s Register at the LR x GIT Coatings Client Type Approval Ceremony. The company positions the coating system as an alternative to recurring propeller polishing, aiming to shift shipowners toward long-term performance retention over the drydock cycle.
XGIT-VORTEX is powered by GIT’s Amphiphilic Graphene Nanonetwork (AGN) and is described as a dedicated three-layer coating system. A foul-release topcoat is designed to deter fouling attachment, while a reinforced mid-coat is described as the structural layer to help absorb cavitation stress and reduce coating damage at blade edges and tips; the surface is also described as low-friction to maintain propeller smoothness over the drydock cycle.
GIT Coatings says key performance characteristics include up to 5% fuel savings, with a performance guarantee available. The product launch is also said to follow Lloyd’s Register’s recent type approval of GIT Coatings’ graphene-based hull coating, XGIT-FORCE, and the CEO, Mo AlGermozi, linked the launch to a mission focused on long-term performance, emissions reduction, and measurable operational value; the company also says it has surpassed about 600 vessel and propeller coating applications globally since 2022.
