WASS Submarine Systems, a subsidiary of Fincantieri, signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Magellan Aerospace Corporation at CANSEC 2026 to identify and develop industrial cooperation for Canada’s underwater defense capabilities.
Under the MoU framework, WASS Submarine Systems and Magellan will explore opportunities for Canadian industrial participation in heavyweight torpedoes and torpedo countermeasures system capabilities. The cooperation scope covers production of components, energetic sections, subassemblies, final assembly and factory testing, alongside maintenance and in-service support activities.
The collaboration is presented as a path to support longer-term sovereign underwater capabilities, strengthen local industrial participation, and enable sustainable in-country sustainment across the lifecycle of underwater defense systems. WASS Submarine Systems also cites more than 150 years of heritage in underwater defense, while Magellan Aerospace Corporation is described as having an established industrial presence in Canada.
