RINA awarded Baker Hughes Type Approval for its NovaLT-16 gas turbine, certifying the engine for natural gas operation and up to 100% hydrogen for marine propulsion applications.

The Type Approval was announced during Posidonia 2026 in Athens, Greece, marking the companies’ next step in an ongoing collaboration on advanced gas turbine technology for the maritime sector.

Ahmed Eldemerdash, Vice President Climate Technology Solutions at Baker Hughes, said the decarbonization push for maritime shipping requires performance today and flexibility for tomorrow without compromising reliability or safety, and he described the milestone as advancing a fuel-flexible platform ready for real-world marine applications.
