WinGD delivered the methanol-capable container ship Tema Mærsk to A.P. Moller – Maersk, with the vessel powered by WinGD’s X82DF-M/E multi-fuel engine platform.
The handover follows a 2025 installation of the X82DF-M/E on Tema Mærsk and a naming ceremony held at Yangzijiang Shipbuilding in China.
Tema Mærsk uses WinGD’s X82DF-M/E multi-fuel engine platform
Tema Mærsk is powered by WinGD’s X82DF-M/E multi-fuel engine platform.
WinGD says the X82DF-M/E has methanol capability and is inherently compatible with ethanol, positioning the ship to operate across alcohol-based fuels as market conditions develop.
Naming ceremony held at Yangzijiang Shipbuilding in China
The naming ceremony for Tema Mærsk took place at Yangzijiang Shipbuilding in China.
WinGD Chief Executive Officer Dominik Schneiter attended the ceremony, and WinGD Vice President Market Development Benny Hilström was also present.
Maersk order and X82DF-M/E installation details
Maersk ordered WinGD’s X-DF-M dual-fuel engines for a series of six 9,000 TEU container vessels in March 2023.
The X82DF-M/E was installed on Tema Mærsk in 2025.
WinGD frames the delivery as part of a multifuel decarbonization path
WinGD described the delivery of Tema Mærsk as a milestone in the shipping industry’s decarbonization journey.
WinGD said the X82DF-M/E extends its methanol offer to 82-bore engines, and its platform is presented as enabling shipowners’ multi-fuel flexibility as alcohol-based fuels expand.
