Nokia teamed up with NestAI, a European AI lab focused on defense, to develop resilient connectivity systems for battlefield operations. The collaboration combines Nokia’s 5G networks with NestAI’s NestOS operating system.
The partnership is meant to help European armed forces maintain command-and-control systems and reduce reliance on fixed communications infrastructure. The stated goal is to help NATO forces cope better with modern warfare, including communications jamming and drones.
Why Nokia is framing it as a field problem
Nokia Defense Chairman Mikko Hautala said defense is moving quickly to adopt AI-enabled capabilities, from mission planning to unmanned operations. He added that AI only works in the field when it has secure, resilient connectivity behind it.
Telefónica and Thales put SGP.32 into service
Telefónica and Thales have launched an eSIM offering for IoT applications based on the GSMA SGP.32 standard. The eSIM lets organizations use a single card with profiles from multiple operators and integrates with Kite, Telefónica’s managed IoT connectivity platform.
The service lets customers select the active operator in a given geographic area, manage subscriptions, and view their global connectivity.
euNetworks adds a Paris–Milan fiber bypass through the Alps
euNetworks has opened a new direct fiber route between Paris and Milan. The 1,057km route goes through the Alps instead of following the coast via Marseille, and customers can connect into euNetworks’ own metro networks in Paris and Milan.
euNetworks says it owns and operates 18 metropolitan city networks connected with a high-capacity backbone covering 53 cities in 17 countries.
