Europe has the most 5G fixed wireless access deployments, according to data from the Global mobile Suppliers Association. The United States leads at the country level, and the same update says fixed wireless remains a key value driver for operators.
The GSA says 276 operators have launched 5G fixed wireless access services in 116 countries. In the European Union, 108 commercially launched 5G fixed wireless access networks are operating, while the Middle East and Africa have 75 launched networks.
The broader 5G base is also still expanding. The GSA says 392 operators have launched 5G services to date, up 14% since the first quarter of 2025, and as of June 2026, 542 operators are investing in LTE or 5G fixed wireless services across 180 countries and territories.
What the European lead says about 5G FWA
Europe’s lead is in deployed 5G fixed wireless access networks, not in country count. That distinction matters because the GSA says the United States leads at the country level, while Europe has the larger installed footprint.
The same market update also points to 4G/LTE as an important foundation for fixed wireless access in many markets, with 5G deployment accelerating especially in Europe and the Middle East and Africa.
Signal for FWA operators and vendors
For operators, the GSA’s update is another reminder that fixed wireless is no longer a niche overlay. The 542-operator investment base across 180 countries and territories gives vendors and network planners a broader addressable market than the launch count alone suggests.
For equipment and service vendors, Europe’s lead is a useful benchmark: commercial 5G FWA deployment is already dense enough there to shape how operators elsewhere frame their own rollouts.
