Telia deploys 5G standalone with critical IoT connectivity across Sweden

Telia has deployed 5G standalone (5G SA) with an IoT service across its entire Swedish 5G footprint.

Telia’s 5G footprint in Sweden covers 99.99% of the population and over 94% of the landmass area, which the operator describes as a Swedish first.

Deploying 5G SA for Telia Critical IoT Connectivity

Telia says it built the service to deliver secure, stable, and predictable connectivity for demanding IoT use cases. The service is aimed at emergency services, energy, transport, industry, and healthcare.

For Telia, the key technical mechanism is using 5G SA. Telia says this enables advanced capabilities including network slicing, ultra-low latency, and increased security.

Video/data optimisation and traffic management claims

Telia also says that its network connected to the 5G core is optimised for video and data. The operator further claims that its network traffic management helps ensure reliable performance for applications even at peak usage times.

Telia Sweden frames the rollout around security and control

Fredrik Stenberg, Head of B2B at Telia Sweden, linked the deployment to operational criticality, saying: “Through Telia Critical IoT Connectivity, we’re creating the conditions for companies and organizations to use new digital solutions in the most critical parts of their operations, where the demands are greatest, without compromising security or control.”
