Shipping Technology launches ST Brain Lite for chartered vessels, designed for crew self-installation

Shipping Technology has launched ST Brain Lite for chartered vessels, with Danser Group deploying units across chartered ships on its Limburg Express container liner service.

The product is positioned as a compact onboard computer that connects into existing vessel systems and sends data in real time, with remote activation support from Shipping Technologys office team.

ST Brain Lite installs on board without complex integrations

ST Brain Lite is designed to be installed by the crew themselves, while Shipping Technology provides remote activation support from its office team. The unit is presented as requiring no complex integrations.

Shipping Technology says ST Brain Lite is a small onboard computer that connects to existing vessel systems including GPS and AIS. It also connects to loading systems and, where applicable, tank monitoring or container stowage software.

Real-time data to a cloud dashboard and operators systems

Shipping Technology states that ST Brain Lite transmits data in real time to a secure cloud dashboard and also directly into operators systems. Ship owners retain control over which parties receive access to their vessels data.

For operators managing fleets that combine owned and chartered capacity, Danser Group manages eight owned vessels and relies on an additional 70 chartered ships to operate its liner services. The launch is aimed at chartered ships that are otherwise harder to digitize with a full installation.

What ST Brain Lite captures for planning and sustainability

Shipping Technology connects approximately 380 inland vessels with its full ST Brain platform, but it says a large segment of the market remained out of reach because chartered ships were not covered by the product set.

The company highlights that chartered ships are sometimes older vessels where a full digital installation can be technically complex or economically unfeasible, and that many operators still rely on manual processes such as phone calls, WhatsApp messages, emails, and spreadsheets to track vessel locations, cargo status, arrival times, and fuel consumption.

IoT connectivity data package covers vessel position and planning datalocation, speed, and estimated time of arrivalalong with fuel consumption and emissions data. Shipping Technology says the vessel position and planning data enable operators to accurately manage fleet movements, while the fuel and emissions data support sustainability reporting and help vessels calling at Rotterdam qualify for a 5% port fee discount through the Green Award emission certification scheme.

Upgrades from Lite to ST Brain full and ST Sailing

Ship owners whose vessels are equipped with ST Brain Lite by an operator can choose to subsequently invest in the ST Brain full version. They can also choose to invest in ST Sailing, which the source describes as Shipping Technologys Autonomous Lane Assist and Collision Detection solutions.
