Com4 backs 120,000 European screens with IoT connectivity

Com4 provides IoT connectivity for more than 120,000 screens across Europe in a collaboration with ZetaDisplay. The screens use dedicated SIM cards, industrial 4G modems, and environmental sensors, and they display real-time updated schedules that depend on the stability of the cellular link.

The setup also uses remote management through the Engage Suite cloud platform, which reduces physical intervention and speeds up maintenance. Com4’s 5G Standalone core was developed by Nokia, and the core integrates radio technologies from 2G through 5G Standalone while supporting IoT protocols.

The infrastructure includes granular service control via SIM card, multi-IMSI redundancy, and support for LPWA technologies such as LTE-M and NB-IoT. It also uses edge gateways to reduce latency by moving processing closer to connected devices, and Com4 says the design relies on full communication encryption and VPN tunnels to protect sensitive data. Com4 and ZetaDisplay are also exploring eSIM for more flexible mobile connection management and automatic failover to a secondary network.
