Acceleronix, Quectel and iBOI announced a GPS cattle ear tag for real-time monitoring. The solution ties the tag to iBOI’s herd and animal health management platform.
The companies say the setup is intended to connect individual animal monitoring to herd management, with animals used as collateral in credit operations.
What Quectel built into the tag
Quectel designed and manufactured the GPS ear tag as a turnkey design and manufacturing project. The device includes a temperature sensor, step counter and RFID, and Quectel said it drew on its cellular and GNSS expertise to fit connectivity and positioning into a compact form factor for livestock operations.
The tag uses lightweight M2M for communication, monitoring and remote management over the cellular network. That keeps transmissions down while still exposing device health, connectivity and battery status.
What Acceleronix and iBOI handle
Acceleronix provides eSIM-based connectivity for production, integration and initial field deployment, plus IoT middleware and device lifecycle management through ACX Core for the life of the product.
iBOI supplies the platform side: real-time animal inventory, full lot management, movement history, transfers between paddocks and pastures, herd statements, weight progression, average daily gain, body condition score and herd performance and health indicators.
The ACX Core integration turns location data into virtual fences that define management areas and flag exits from defined perimeters, with alerts for escapes, breakouts and unauthorized movements.
Monitoring functions beyond location
The monitoring system also includes alerts for lack of movement, abnormal behavior, location anomalies and temperature changes.
Those inputs are meant to give iBOI a software layer that sits above the connectivity and device stack rather than forcing it to manage the infrastructure itself.
Read for livestock IoT integrators
This is a benchmark for livestock IoT projects that need both device-side telemetry and a management platform. It also shows how eSIM connectivity, device management and livestock analytics can be packaged into one deployment, without separating the data layers by vendor.
The partners say the solution was developed for the realities of Brazilian livestock farming and is designed to scale internationally.
