Sateliot has struck satellite IoT deals with Telenor and Telefónica while Omdia and Transforma Insights have put 2035 connection totals far higher.
Omdia predicted in June that cellular IoT connections will reach 5.9 billion by 2035. Transforma Insights puts global IoT connections at 48 billion by 2035 once non-cellular technologies such as LoRa, Wi-Fi, and Bluetooth are included.
Sateliot’s deal sheet now spans multiple verticals
Sateliot is a Barcelona-based pioneer of 3GPP-based satellite IoT connectivity. The company has recently struck deals covering several satellite IoT verticals, instead of keeping the commercial pitch confined to a single use case.
Its partnership with Telenor, established in May, spans agriculture, environmental monitoring, energy and utilities, and maritime connectivity. Sateliot also reached a similar deal with Telefónica that extends to mission-critical communications, including for the defence sector.
Omdia’s view of the market still points to scale outside satellite
Omdia said the connected car market is expected to see annual shipments grow from 11,000 in 2023 to more than 112 million by 2035. John Canali, principal analyst for IoT at Omdia, said enterprises increasingly need global coverage without connectivity gaps and greater resilience when terrestrial connectivity is unavailable.
Verticals Omdia highlighted
Omdia highlighted agriculture and environmental monitoring, defence and military, energy and utilities, and transportation and logistics as key verticals.
Read for satellite IoT deal watchers
For satellite IoT buyers and operators, the concrete point is the spread of Sateliot’s named partnerships across both commercial and mission-critical use cases. The figures from Omdia and Transforma Insights show the wider IoT base those satellite deals are being measured against, but they do not change the fact that Sateliot’s disclosed footprint here is still partnership-led.
