Huawei puts 6G on a 2029-2030 track and readies indoor 5G radios

Huawei said 6G standardization is expected in 2029-2030, while its first indoor 5G radio products for industrial use are due this year.

The company is splitting the message in two: 6G is still a standards exercise, but industrial 5G indoor gear is going commercial now. Huawei France said commercial 6G products would arrive one to two years after the first specifications release.

Industrial indoor 5G is the near-term play

Huawei plans to launch its first indoor 5G radio products for industrial use this year. Those products are designed for the 3.8-4.2 GHz band and are intended for factories, warehouses, and industrial sites.

Huawei said the indoor products are intended to enable large-scale industrial 5G deployments.

The spectrum fit is already in place in Europe

The 3.8-4.2 GHz band is harmonized in Europe for low-power indoor uses. In France, Arcep issues local licenses for private 5G networks on company sites.

6G stays on a standards timeline

Huawei France said the first 6G specifications release is not expected before 2029-2030. The company said commercial 6G products would follow one to two years later.

Read for private-network buyers

For enterprise network teams, the immediate signal is about indoor private 5G, not 6G. Huawei is positioning its first industrial indoor radios for a band that is already harmonized in Europe and licensed locally in France for company-site deployments.
