Tele2 commits €9.8 million to Lithuanian spectrum auction

Tele2 will invest €9.8 million in spectrum acquisition in Lithuania, with €4.6 million scheduled for payment this year. The new spectrum assets are intended to support Tele2’s ongoing 5G rollout and future network expansion in Lithuania.

700 MHz, 1500 MHz and 2100 MHz are the assets in play

Tele2 acquired 2×5 MHz of spectrum in the 700 MHz band and 1×20 MHz in the 1500 MHz band in Lithuania. The company also extended its existing 2×20 MHz license in the 2100 MHz band.

Tele2 says the addition of 700 MHz spectrum is expected to improve wider-area coverage and indoor connectivity. The 1500 MHz spectrum is expected to increase network capacity and support higher data traffic on 5G networks.

Tele2’s Lithuania build reaches through 2042

The spectrum licenses will support mobile broadband growth through 2042. Tele2 Baltics CEO Petras Masiulis said the spectrum acquisition is an important milestone in the company’s long-term network strategy and will enable continued 5G development while improving connection quality across Lithuania.

What this means for Lithuanian 5G planners

Tele2 is locking in low-band coverage, mid-band capacity and a longer 2100 MHz position at the same time. For rivals and enterprise buyers in Lithuania, the useful signal is the mix: coverage, capacity and license duration all moved together in one auction result.
