Ericsson added core network automation to its Intelligent Automation Platform and introduced cApps and new OSS/BSS pathways at DTW Ignite. The company is extending EIAP beyond RAN automation and into the core domain.

The expanded EIAP is meant to unify management and automation across RAN and core networks. Ericsson says it will also provide a single source of truth for topology and resource data through the central resource layer, while pulling reliable low-latency data from ENM’s streaming capability, ESPE.

What Ericsson is putting into the platform

Ericsson says the expanded EIAP gives communications service providers a simplified route to deploying complex, high-value differentiated services with control over cost and complexity. The platform move is the same one the company is pairing with cApps and new OSS/BSS pathways.

What customers are signaling

AT&T’s Rob Soni, vice president for RAN technology, said Ericsson’s expansion of EIAP to include core network automation is a significant step forward for the industry. Philipp Bichsel, executive vice president for mobile network and services at Swisscom, said the platform gives the market a powerful tool for building on early success with RAN automation and extending those abilities to deliver an autonomous and programmable network end to end.

Monica Zethzon, head of core networks at Ericsson, said the expansion is intended to re-engineer automation across telecom domains and deliver real autonomy and business results.

For CSPs mapping out automation stacks, Ericsson is now pushing the same EIAP story from the radio domain into the core. The practical test is whether the promised unification of RAN and core management, plus the central resource layer and ESPE data path, reduces integration work enough to matter in live operations.
