DVV Media privacy notice details data processing and Google cookie use

DVV Media27s data protection notice says the DVV Media Group GmbH and DVV Media GmbH position themselves as service providers and responsible entities for protecting users27 personal data on DVV Media services.

It describes the notice as covering data collection, processing, and use, and also says it informs users of their rights. DVV Media27s stated data protection officer contact details include a mailing address in Hamburg (Heidenkampsweg 73-79, 20097 Hamburg) plus an email address (datenschutznoSpam@noSpamdvvmedia.com) and a telephone number (040/23714-100).

The notice defines personal data as individual details about a person27s personal or material circumstances that identify that person or can be used to determine their identity. It adds that IP addresses can qualify as personal data because they can be used to infer identity. For access to schiffundhafen.de, it states that data is stored in server log files on DVV Media servers and on servers of technical service providers, with log files kept for up to a maximum of seven days for security reasons and then deleted; it also states data needed for evidentiary purposes can be excluded from deletion until an incident is ultimately resolved.

DVV Media further says it performs automated processing of personal data in anonymized form during visits, including usage data such as visit start and end times, pages accessed, and time spent on the portal, and that this anonymized automated processing does not involve personal exploitation of that data. It also says it uses organizational and technical security measures aligned with the state of the art to comply with data protection laws and protect data against manipulation, loss, destruction, and unauthorized access.

On account and communications, the notice says DVV Media uses Single Sign-On (SSO), and that during registration it collects and stores an email address and a password. It states that account data processing is for fulfilling contractual obligations and service performance under TDDDG 2725(2) No. 2 in conjunction with GDPR Article 6(1)(b), while contact-form and email requests are processed under GDPR Article 6(1)(f). For newsletters, it says users can sign up for recurring editorial newsletters and consent to informational use of their personal data; it states newsletter delivery is handled via Inxmail GmbH and that consent is voluntary with no connection to the ability to use services.

The notice says DVV Media sends a confirmation email after a user signs up, and that the signup becomes effective only after the user clicks the link in that confirmation email; it states the confirmation step is necessary to prevent someone from signing up with someone else27s email address and that newsletter registrations are logged for compliance, including storing signup and confirmation timestamps and the user27s IP address. It also says users can unsubscribe at any time via a unique link included in all newsletters, and that processing up to the time of cancellation remains lawful.

On cookies and advertising, the notice defines cookies as small data amounts sent with requested data from the internet to a user27s computer for later retrieval. It states DVV Media uses session cookies stored only for the duration of an internet session and deleted when the session ends. It also says it uses Google Marketing Services from Google Ireland Limited, with a stated legal basis of TDDDG 2725(1), to show targeted advertising aligned with users27 interests and to support remarketing. It describes how, when pages load where Google Marketing Services are active, Google executes code and embeds (re)marketing tags described as invisible graphics or code called web beacons; it says the tags store an individual cookie and that cookies can be set by multiple domains including google.com, invitemedia.com, admeld.com, googlesyndication.com, and googleadservices.com.

The notice says the cookie file records which webpages a user visited, content they were interested in, offers they clicked, and technical information about the browser and operating system, plus referring webpages, visit time, and additional usage details. It further states that, under Google Analytics, IP addresses are truncated within EU member states or other EEA contracting states and only in exceptional cases transferred in full to a Google server in the USA for truncation, and it says the IP address is not combined with user data from other Google services. It adds that Google may combine information with other sources and can display tailored ads after visiting other webpages. For Google Marketing Services, it states users27 data is processed pseudonymously by Google, with ads managed and served for the cookie holder rather than for a specifically identified person, and that this cookie-holder approach does not apply if a user explicitly allows data processing without pseudonymization; it also states data collected via Google Marketing Services is transmitted to Google and stored on Google servers in the USA.

Finally, the notice says DVV Media can embed third-party advertisements using Google Ad Manager and AdSense based on Google Marketing Services, and that both use cookies to allow Google and partner websites to show advertisements based on users27 visits to DVV Media27s website and other websites. It also states DVV Media can use Google Tag Manager to integrate and manage Google analytics and marketing services on its websites.
